What is Easter and why is it celebrated?
Easter is one of the biggest holidays in Christianity. It marks the resurrection of Jesus Christ and the hope of redemption. Since its origins, Easter is a time of celebration, and many people commemorate the day by enjoying a big meal with family and friends and partaking in games. Nowadays, Easter has become commercially important, with people sending greeting cards and gifting chocolate eggs.
When is Easter Sunday?
Easter doesn’t happen on the same date each year because it’s based on the Lunar cycle. This year, Easter Sunday falls on 31st March 2024.
What are typical Easter gifts?
When it comes to gifts, there isn’t an age limit or set guidelines. However, if you’re sending a parcel by courier, please be aware some items are Prohibited and Restricted, particularly if you plan to ship a package abroad. We’ve put together a list of common Easter gifts and explain how (or if) you can send them:
✔ Chocolate (UK only)
When you think of Easter, your mind probably jumps straight to eggs. In particular, delicious chocolate eggs!
Sending chocolates by post is acceptable providing the item is properly sealed, has a long shelf life and is sent within the UK only. However, some carriers, like DPD, do not accept any food, so check with the courier too before you book.
✔ Books
Books are a popular gift for young children at Easter. From sticker books to fiction, there is an abundance of books available to purchase in-store and online. Fortunately, books are simple to send by courier too, provided you pay close attention to the edges and corners when packaging.
✔ Toys
Bunnies, chicks and lambs are synonymous with Easter which is why you’ll find many stuffed animal toys waiting for a new home. If your recipient is perhaps a bit too old for a cuddly toy, there are lots of other toys available like LEGO Easter sets. Either way, children’s toys are relatively easy to send via courier.
-- Ceramic/ Porcelain/ China decorations (Restricted)
Porcelain rabbits or ceramic eggs are popular Easter gifts, however, due to their fragile nature, they are restricted items. This means that if the item is damaged in transit, no transit cover or guarantees apply to these items. If you do intend to send something delicate, we can only advise you to package the item securely with plenty of cushioning material.
❌ Money
Money is unsuitable for shipment with any of our courier services. If you wish to gift a loved one money this Easter, you’ll have to do this in person.
Alternatively, why not send your recipient a small token gift instead? You can send a parcel from only £2.15 + VAT with Evri ParcelShop Postable.
❌ Unboxed items
Parcels travel a long way before they reach their destination on various modes of transport. That’s why you must package your item in sufficient packaging material before booking, and cardboard boxes are essential. If your item is not encased in cardboard, you risk confiscation, fines or the parcel being returned.
Packaging an item for shipping
We advise you follow our packaging guidelines when sending a parcel through any of our courier services. Our helpful video demonstrates the best way to pack a standard item for shipment, but our blog also includes advice on niche items. In general, ensure you select a strong cardboard box, protect each item individually in cushioning material, and fill any empty space to reduce the item from moving in transit. Secure the box with strong packing tape and attach relevant shipping labels clearly on the outside of the shipment.
