10 Fun Craft Ideas to Entertain the Kids This Easter

26th March 2021, 2:02pm in Lifestyle by Eva Malpass

With Easter only a few weeks away, we are keen to get crafting to brighten our homes in preparation. Particularly for kids, not being able to see friends and go outside has been difficult, but as sunlight hours get longer and we gradually regain some normality, we look positively ahead.

Easter, with its bright and colourful decorations, is a fantastic occasion to bring some vibrancy to our homes. We've put together a list of simple arts and crafts ideas to keep the kids occupied and turn your home into an Easter fun-house!

Easter baskets

Floral baskets are simple to make, but stunning to look at. All you'll need to make one is a hot glue gun, a basket and some greenery/flowers and you're all set! Delia Creates has a tutorial in full so you and the kids can follow. After you've completed your basket, you can use it to collect your eggs on a back-garden scavenger hunt too!

If you choose to use fake flowers/greenery, these baskets will last for years to come and can be used again for future Easter celebrations.

Floral candle wreath

These mini candlestick wreaths are perfect for adding a little touch of Spring to your dinner table, and are easy for you and the kids to create with some lengths of malleable wire and a few flowers.

You just need to wrap the flowers round the wire circle and secure with smaller lengths. These are so simple to make and if you want to make them last longer, you can dry or press flowers and use these to create your mini wreath.

Egg cup planters

If you want to get crafty with the family but want a more subtle homage to the season, these egg cup planters are an excellent idea. Grab a standard egg cup and some paint to decorate as you please!

Once these have dried, you can add your soil, succulent and a few pebbles. You can purchase succulents from local garden centres as these have been allowed to stay open throughout the UK national lockdown.

Egg carton chicks

Egg cup chicks

This is a fantastic way to introduce children to recycling while creating some adorable chicks for Easter arts and crafts. After making your Easter lunch, make sure to save the egg cartons so that you can make these cute carton chicks!

Typically Simple has the tutorial, but firstly, you'll just need some acrylic paint, glue, scissors, a marker and some construction paper. Once you've gathered these bits you can start forming your chicks and get creative - they don't have to look the same, encourage them to think up some funny facial expressions for some interesting characters!

Paper flowers

Paper flowers can be made in a variety of ways, but the best we've seen are crafted from cupcake wrappers. The method is very simple, all you need to do is colour in your wrapper and cut little slits around the edges to form the petals for each flower. After this you can then wrap some cable around a wire and secure to the base of the wrapper to form the stem.

These can look stunning and make a pretty and fun Easter craft idea for kids to get on with at home!

Bunny hats

Easter bunny hat

Hop right into Easter activities with these bunny party hats! Super easy to make and just about stylish enough for an adult to wear, all you need is some card and a bit of imagination and when it comes to Easter crafts for kids, imagination is abundant! This easy Easter craft activity can also be a great way to reuse old packaging from past deliveries that are sat idle too.

The tutorial is easy to follow, although you may want to give the kids a hand initially when forming the hat shape, as this can be a little bit fiddly! Once you've got that out of the way, they can run wild with their bunny hat design and give it three ears, one eye or a unicorn horn if they want!

Jazzy eggs

Now, this one may be difficult with heavy-handed children, but decorating eggs into tiny disco balls can be a really fun Easter activity to brighten up (and possibly completely ruin) your kitchen this year!

Glitter can be a real nightmare to get rid of so make sure you cover your workspace with material you can recycle or dispose of properly. Then all you need to do is fill a bowl with glue and cover your eggs in it. Then fill another bowl with glitter and get decorating!

These can turn out really great and can really make your Easter decorations more jazzy in 2021 - who needs clubbing when you have glittery eggs!

Easter tree

Easter tree

Inspired by the Swedish tradition of Paskris, which roughly translates to twigs, creating and decorating an Easter tree can be a colourful and fun affair. Grab some paint, a few eggs and maybe even some feathers and start adorning your twigs with brightly coloured decorations.

Aunt Peaches has a tutorial for how to create your tree at home, but this fun Easter craft for kids is pretty straightforward and can make for a fantastic centrepiece for your celebrations!

Outdoor wreath

A wreath can give any door an air of sophistication as long as the kids don't go too mad! Creating an outdoor wreath requires only a few supplies, most of which you can pick up in the supermarket or Poundland.

Most importantly you'll need a wreath to start, after this you can start gluing bits and pieces to it. These can be eggs, flowers or even some moss for a more rustic feel. This tutorial can give you a few pointers on how to form a stunning floral motif all around your wreath and to give the kids a few examples to follow.

Mason jar centrepieces

Mason jar centrepiece

These are perhaps the most beautiful and simple Easter crafts ideas we have found, and only need a few jars and some acrylic paint! Simply paint your jar the colour of your choosing and add a pattern here and there to make it more exciting.

As this task is relatively easy you can give the kids their materials and leave them to it - as long as all carpets and walls are safely covered, mind you! After they've finished you can place some pretty flowers in each to create stunning centrepieces which will make any Easter table shine!

Coming up with ways to occupy the kids can be tricky, especially during lockdown, finding fun activities that can entertain them can be difficult. We hope that these Easter activities for kids spark some creative fun for your family this year and if they end up creating something that's too good not to share, we can help you deliver your masterpiece to a loved one for less!
