FedEx Express Surcharges

FedEx Express Surcharges

No one likes to receive an unexpected surcharge, this is why it is so important to be accurate when weighing and measuring your parcel. If correct details are entered at the time of booking you shouldn’t receive any unexpected charges as this is already calculated into the price. It is also important to look at your packaging as this can sometimes incur extra charges.

Additional Handling Surcharges

These surcharges can occur because of the following reasons

Dimensions - Minimum of £31 per parcel

  • Measures greater than 121 centrimetres along its longest side;
  • Measures greater than 76 centimetres along its second-longest side; or,
  • Measures greater than 266 centimetres in length and girth (L + W + 2H)

Packaging - Minimum of £21 per parcel

  • Is encased in an outer shipping container or packaging not made of corrugated fibreboard (cardboard) materials, including but not limited to metal, wood, canvas, leather, hard plastic, soft plastic, or expanded polystyrene foam (e.g. Styrofoam);
  • Is encased in an outer shipping container or packaging covered in shrink wrap or stretch wrap;
  • Is round or cylindrical, including (without limitation) mailing tubes, cans, buckets, barrels, tires, drums, or pails;
  • Is bound with metal, plastic, or cloth banding, or has wheels (e.g. a bicycle), casters, handles, or straps, including packages where the outer surface area is loosely wrapped, or where the contents protrude outside the surface area;
  • Could become entangled in, or cause damage to other packages or the FedEx sortation system
  • If a shipment has been packaged with voids in the parcel and there is room for the items inside to move around, this could incur additional charges if the parcel is top heavy and falls off the conveyor

Weight - Minimum of £15 per parcel

  • If your item weighs more than 31kg

Address Correction

Minimum of £7.50 per shipment

If your customers address is incorrect and needs to be changed this may incur a surcharge to be amended

Oversize Charge

Minimum of £49.25 per parcel

An oversize charge applies to a shipment containing packages that exceed 243 centimetres in length or 330 centimetres in length and girth (L+2W+2H). Package shape and dimensions may change during transit, which can affect the package’s surcharge eligibility. If the dimensions change during transit, FedEx may make appropriate adjustments to the shipment charges at any time.

Packaging Advice

If you are shipping rolled up items or long thin items, please do not use a cylinder tube. Instead use triangular or rectangular tubes. Tubes can easily roll off conveyor belts and may also incur additional handling charges.

Please also avoid using excessive tape when securing your parcel as this may need to be manually handled and incur additional handling charges.

** With surcharges there may also be a fuel surcharge added to this. If you have entered your parcel details correctly, fuel is already calculated in. The fuel surcharge can change weekly. **

Please note that the surcharges listed above are subject to change, and are correct at the time of publication. Charges could be levied in addtion that are not listed above.
