Accurate parcel details and suitable packaging can help prevent unexpected charges, returns and delays. The guidance below explains common circumstances that may cause problems with an Evri shipment and how you can help prevent them.

Accurate parcel details help prevent additional charges

Weigh the fully packaged parcel, measure every side, use suitable packaging and check the recipient details before booking. Always follow the size, weight and content restrictions displayed for the selected Evri service.

Typical reasons additional charges may apply

The table below brings together typical courier surcharge situations and practical ways to help avoid them. The selected service, shipment details and Evri's current terms will determine whether a charge applies.

Surcharge When it may apply Top tip
01 Incorrect Weight Or Dimensions

The courier may reweigh and remeasure a parcel during transit. An additional charge or return may result if the fully packaged parcel differs from the details entered when booking.

03 Incompatible Or Irregular Packaging

Cylindrical or irregular parcels, loose wrapping, straps, handles, protruding parts and outer packaging made from materials other than corrugated cardboard may require manual handling or may not be accepted.

04 Unstable Or Poorly Packed Contents

Empty space can allow contents to move and make a parcel unstable or top-heavy. Insufficient protection can also cause damage, delays, returns or additional handling.

05 Incorrect Address Or Contact Details

An incomplete or incorrect delivery address, postcode, recipient name, email address or telephone number can cause a delay, correction or return.

Evri parcel preparation advice

A few simple checks before collection or drop-off can help prevent delays, returns and additional charges.

01

Use Suitable Packaging

Use a strong rectangular cardboard box that is appropriate for the parcel's weight and contents. Avoid cylindrical tubes, loose wrapping and protruding items.

02

Prepare For Collection Or Drop-Off

Make sure the parcel is sealed and the label is secure. If a QR code has been supplied, have it ready at the ParcelShop or Locker. For a collection service, ensure the parcel is available when the driver attends.

Customs information for international parcels

When placing an international Evri order, complete all customs information accurately during the booking process.

If you include your own commercial invoice, the contents, descriptions, declared values, HS codes and shipping costs must exactly match the information entered on the Interparcel website. Any discrepancies may cause customs delays or additional charges.

If customs charges are billed to Interparcel, the original parcel sender will be responsible for paying them. Please see Section 12 of our Terms of Use and check our Prohibited and Restricted Items before sending.
